NIGF 2026 and the privacy operating question

The Nigeria Internet Governance Forum lists its 2026 event for 17–20 November in Abuja, with participation in person and online. The official event page describes discussions involving government, civil society, the private sector and citizens across digital governance, inclusion and related policy issues.

This is a broad Internet governance forum. Privora’s preparation note offers a privacy operating lens on those conversations, rather than claiming a dedicated privacy track or a confirmed speaking role.

Connect the policy question to a service

A discussion about responsible digital services can be relevant to several teams and still leave each unsure what to do next. Before attending, choose one service where the privacy team, policy lead and delivery owner have an unresolved question. Describe the decision they need to make in terms that each can recognise.

For example, an illustrative question could concern a new information-sharing step: why it is needed, which people are affected and what evidence would help the team review it. Keep the example free of confidential personal or client information. The useful preparation is the shape of the question and the decision process around it.

Prepare for a conversation you can continue

Record the current position before looking for new perspectives. This helps distinguish a new insight from something already considered, and makes it easier to explain what changed afterwards.

  • Which service or process makes this governance question concrete?
  • What has already been decided, and what is still open?
  • What evidence or perspective would help the team assess the open point?
  • Who will review the follow-up, and where will the reasoning be recorded?

Leave with a follow-up the team can use

After the forum, separate observations from agreed actions. A suggestion from a discussion may be worth exploring without yet being appropriate for your organisation. Record its source, the question it raises and the next person who needs to consider it.

A small follow-up can be valuable: arranging a review with a service owner, checking an assumption or clarifying an evidence request. Keep the reasoning with the action. For Privora, this is the practical link between governance and Privacy Operations: a colleague can understand the decision in progress and continue it responsibly.
